Seldom have western eyes beheld any of Don's work from this period. Some of his photos have been smuggled in from China and displayed briefly at illegal showings by radical student groups. Word spreads quickly when there is going to be a show and many turn up, unfortunately the RCMP usually show up before too long and close down these impromptu communist photo shows. Rather than become dispirited by the black-listing of some of his best work, Don instead decided to start again here on the prairies, where this whole wild ride began.
